Well had my public meeting with the selectmen last night concerning my application for 2 acres in Brant Island Cove in Mattapoisett. I had heard for weeks that there would be stiff opposition from the neighbors so I scaled back from my original plan hoping that might lighten things up-wrong. They came in with guns blazing -lawyers and all the bad science you could imangin. Navigation issues ,polution, safety,the smell of dead fish , an increase in greenheads. The portland cement on the chinese hats was going to contaminate the local wells but when you boil it all down it was Not In My Backyard So the selectmen asked if I would come back with 3 alternative sites - lets see if I can piss off the entire town. They talk a good line but I know one of them is flat out against public land for private intrests he said so last night. I'm not giving up. TWO of the alternative sites are in different parts of the cove and the other is at the other end of town(lousey access for me ). So the games have begun. Anybody have a good answer to NIMBY?
